《シナリオ・ダイアローグ Ser.10》”人生は自作自演”＝板橋のバーのママ＠サブテレニアン編=（2023）

本作は、東京・板橋にある老舗バーの二代目“ママ”である「私」のモノローグを軸に展開される、セミ・ドキュメンタリーかつメタ・フィクション的な作品です。語りの発端は、自身が中国の「一人っ子政策」のもとに生まれたという出自を知ったこと。そこから、亡くなった常連客の思い出や、渋谷区のパートナーシップ制度への申請をきっかけに約40年ぶりに実家を訪ねたトランスジェンダーの友人のエピソードなど、個人の記憶と社会的な物語が交錯していきます。

物語の随所に引用・参照されるのは、世界で初めて人工的に雪を降らせた物理学者・中谷宇吉郎（1900–1962）の随筆『立春の卵』（1947）や、その娘でアーティストでもある中谷芙二子（1933–）の映像作品『卵を立てる』（1974）。作品全体がこれらへの静かなオマージュとしても構成されています。

会場では、架空のバーの一室を模した映像作品（※）を背景に、観客とのスモールトークを通じたパフォーマティブな対話が展開されます。鑑賞者と演者の間に横たわる「第四の壁」を横断しながら、2023年12月31日（大晦日）という実際の公演日に時系列を同期させた作品です。

血縁と非血縁、女性と男性、当事者と非当事者、生と死、リアルとヴァーチャル、フィクションとノンフィクション──本作には、さまざまな境界線を横断する断片的な物語が織り込まれています。

「鶏が先か、卵が先か」。AかBか、という二項対立がもたらす思考の停止や脆さは、私たちの対話や想像を、しばしば“雑談”にとどめてしまう。そんな感覚への違和感こそが、本作の出発点です。

本作は、そうしたジレンマを浮かび上がらせながら、対立の向こう側にある未定義の地平に、どのように立ち向かい、向かっていけるのか──その困難と必要性をそっと提示する試みです。

"Life as Self-Performance" – Mama of the Itabashi Bar @ Subterranean

This semi-documentary, meta-fictional work centers on the monologue of “me,” the second-generation host (or mama) of a long-standing bar in Itabashi, Tokyo. The narrative begins when she learns that her own origin is tied to China’s former One-Child Policy. From there, the story unfolds to include memories of a beloved regular customer lost during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the journey of a transgender friend who, in order to apply for a partnership certificate in Shibuya Ward, returns to her family home after nearly forty years.

Interwoven throughout the piece are references to Yukichiro Nakaya (1900–1962), a physicist known for creating the world’s first artificial snow, particularly his 1947 essay "Eggs at the Beginning of Spring." The work also pays homage to Standing Eggs (1974), a video piece by his daughter, artist Fujiko Nakaya (b.1933), creating a subtle bridge between personal, scientific, and artistic lineage.

Set against a video installation resembling a room in a fictional bar, the work incorporates performative small talk with the audience. It deliberately blurs the “fourth wall” between viewer and performer, syncing the narrative with the actual date of performance: December 31, 2023—New Year’s Eve.

The story is composed of fragments that traverse boundaries: blood ties and chosen families, male and female, those directly involved and those looking in from the outside, life and death, the real and the virtual, fiction and non-fiction.

At the core lies a philosophical tension: Which came first, the chicken or the egg? This familiar dilemma echoes the danger and fragility of binary thinking—how easily it can lead to intellectual stasis, making it feel as though we are saying something meaningful, when in fact, thought and dialogue may freeze.

By illuminating the discomfort and paradoxes that arise from dualistic structures, this work questions whether we can move beyond such oppositions. Can we cross over to the undefined space on the other side? And if so—how?

This project begins with that very question.
