《巡礼》（pilgrimage）とは、日常の生活空間を一時的に離れ、信仰する聖地や聖域を訪れて聖なるものに近づこうとする行為を指します。しかし、現代における「巡礼」という言葉は、もはや宗教的な文脈にとどまりません。

たとえば、アニメや漫画、映画などの舞台やロケ地を訪れる「聖地巡礼」は、
信仰というよりも、自分の“推し”や“憧れ”に少しでも近づき、触れたいという気持ちに基づく行為として広く知られています。特定の場所を訪れ、愛着ある作品の世界を追体験することは、ヴァーチャルな物語と現実の風景が交差する「リアル」を再確認する、一種の儀式のようにも見えます。

シリーズ作品《巡礼する猫》は、こうした「巡礼」という行為に内在する日常と非日常の往還、
そして、「近づきたい」、「触れたい」といった人間の根源的な欲動を見つめる試みです。

猫という存在は、気まぐれで自由奔放でありながら、同時にどこかに帰属しようとする矛盾を内に秘めています。
その姿は、自ら日常を離れつつ、再び日常へと還っていく巡礼者の姿とも重なります。

私たちは「非日常」と呼ばれる場所に身を置くとき、あたりまえの日常の尊さに気づくことがあります。
だからこそ、問いたいのです。──巡礼者にとって、そして私自身にとっての「日常」とは何なのか。

「非日常」に身を投じることは、単なる現実からの逃避や一時的なエンターテインメントではありません。
むしろ、それは現実を見つめ直すためのセルフ・リカバリーであり、
自分自身をめぐる遍路、すなわち《巡礼》なのかもしれません。

《巡礼する猫》は、こうした往還の中にある、人間の再生へと向かう内なる力を静かに映し出すシリーズです。



The term pilgrimage traditionally refers to the act of temporarily leaving one’s everyday environment to visit a sacred site, seeking proximity to the divine. However, in contemporary contexts, the word no longer remains strictly religious.

For example, the phenomenon of visiting locations featured in anime, manga, or films—often called “sacred site pilgrimage”—is widely known. These journeys are not driven by faith, but by a desire to get closer to one’s favorite characters or worlds, to touch and experience them. Visiting these specific places and reliving the cherished imaginary landscapes becomes, in a sense, a ritual that intersects virtual narratives with real landscapes.

The series The Cat in Pilgrimage explores this back-and-forth between everyday life and the extraordinary inherent in the act of pilgrimage, and examines the fundamental human impulses to “approach” and “touch.”

Cats, as beings, are whimsical and free-spirited, yet they also carry a contradiction—the desire to belong somewhere. Their presence resonates with the figure of the pilgrim, who leaves the ordinary behind yet inevitably returns.

When we place ourselves in what is called the “extraordinary,” we often become aware of the value of our ordinary life.
It is precisely for this reason that we pose the question: for the pilgrim, and for my own “everyday,” what does it mean?

Immersing oneself in the extraordinary is not an escape from reality or a fleeting form of entertainment.
Rather, it is an act of self-recovery, a reflective journey that circles back to the self—a personal henro, a pilgrimage.

The Cat in Pilgrimage is a series that quietly reflects the inner force within humans that moves toward regeneration found within such cycles of departure and return.
